Planting a Tree with the Mayor of Dawlish for the Queens Platinum Jubilee
During this year of the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee, there is a project to plant trees throughout the United Kingdom called The Queens’s Green Canopy. This initiative will also see the dedication of a network of 70 ancient woodlands and the identification of 7 ancient trees.
The tree was planted at the Buntings, Dawlish; Greenbelt kindly provided the ground and we at Tony Benger Landscaping had the pleasure of assisting the Mayor of Dawlish Cllr Val Mawhood with the planting of an English Oak Tree on Friday 12th March. This was a specially designated day by the National Association of Civic Officers as Tree Planting Day. The Association is preparing a bound book to present to the Queen that will include the names of all Councils who took part and a special plaque will be put in place.
The Mayor of Dawlish Cllr Mawhood said “I am honoured to be asked to plant a commemorative tree for Dawlish Town Council, on behalf of our community. The tree chosen is an English Oak known for its longevity and value to wildlife and its historic connection with this country. Such trees can live for many hundreds of years. I trust that ‘our’ tree prospers and grows and one day becomes a much-loved landmark, visible from far afield, recalling the year of our Queen’s Platinum Jubilee. “
We are thrilled to have been a part of this project and to work on something that is very important to us as a company, helping to make the world a little greener.
