What's New
Trading News - April '20
Hello dear customers,
Amid self-isolation, working-from-home, furloughs and skeleton-crews, it is surprising just how quickly we can feel out of touch. Hence, we’re taking a moment to reach out and update you regarding our trading status.
It’s been two weeks since lock down in the UK. That heart-beat moment we’ll all remember when our worlds changed. Last month, Bengers was on course for another record-breaking year. Now, we’ll be happy if we can be safe and smart enough to come out the other side still resembling the large-capacity outfit we have poured our hearts into building these last 30 years.
As much as we could see it coming, it has still been treacherous to navigate; so many unknowns; could/should we continue to work? Would our suppliers supply and would our customers still want us?
With our ears to the ground and adhering to the unfurling government advice, we’ve attempted to grapple with that new beast – the invisible, ubiquitous virus and how to avoid it. Ourselves, our families, our colleagues, customers and our emergency services.
So, now the fortnight in history has been endured, where do we find ourselves?
We can pronounce the word “furlough” and balance the implications of skeleton crews. We have learnt where to find toilet roll and flour and how much is just enough!
Sunshine, daffodils and primroses, auspicious harbingers for everyone’s favourite season, are helping us to focus. We are not starring in a post-apocalyptic movie, the inexorable spring time is not on lock down – and, perhaps more than ever before, we appreciate the soul-warming catharses of our outside spaces, of our gardens!
Most importantly for our industry; we are finding that; yes – our customers do still require our services, and yes, we can deliver them safely!
We’ve changed everything about the way we work and how we communicate. Tony, our senior staff, our teams of contract managers, and all of our landscapers and gardeners have made huge adjustments. A great number of us are furloughed and the limited number of lone staff still operating are adhering to strict distancing and hygiene measures. As a result, at each of our outlets across the South West:
We are still designing and undertaking new domestic landscaping projects!
Domestic Maintenance rounds have been unchanged, or even increased!
Commercial Maintenance saw a knee-jerk reduction, but has since bounced back with almost all paused contracts resuming safely.
Commercial Construction has slowed with many of our house-builders as construction sites have closed. Our work on public open spaces and infrastructure projects has been consistent albeit with a reduced workforce.
All of our priorities have been challenged … apart from one … where we are working for you, we pride ourselves in giving a top quality, professional service above all else.
If you need us, we’d love to hear from you, don’t hesitate to get in touch: Dalwood Head Office: 01404 831 844
Our best wishes.
