UK’s First Ever Bee-Friendly Development
We are very excited to be featured again this November in the Pro Landscaper magazine showcasing our work on the “UK’s first-ever bee-friendly development” in Exeter, for which we won one of our 2021 British Association of Landscape Industries awards in the category of Soft Landscaping Construction (non-domestic) - Under £500K.
We are very proud to have worked on this environmentally-focused project, for the Redrow Homes Development at Saxon Brook. There’s a mix of ponds, wildflower areas, native hedges, and glade planting as well as lots of trees. Some of the works involved working on very steep banks and at one point, after an extensive risk assessment, even involved a small rowing boat!
The site promotes biodiversity within an urban environment – an oasis for the public, residents and wildlife. By partnering with the Bumblebee Conservation Trust we chose to use bee-friendly wildflower seed mixes that provide a haven for bees and all other types of insects, while the planting we installed around the ponds is the perfect habitat for all types of bugs, birds and beasts. It is a common sight to watch swallows in the spring darting across the water. The vast scale of this open space is a fantastic spectacle and so important in providing a tranquil reserve and a haven of biodiversity.
